Get Your (Free) Ice Skates On!

Get ready to glide! The free outdoor skating rink has returned to Blackpool promenade, brought to you by Blackpool Council in partnership with Blackpool Transport Services. Open daily from November 15 to January 5, 2025, this unique synthetic rink offers free admission and skate hire.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the iconic Blackpool Tower, the 20-metre rink operates from 12 PM to 9 PM daily (closed on Christmas Day). No need to book in advance—just show up, grab your complimentary rental skates, and hit the ice. The rink accommodates up to 60 skaters at a time and provides designated changing facilities, skate aids, and accessibility aids to ensure everyone can join in the fun.

Free Skating for all Ages

Whether you’re a seasoned skater perfecting your spins or a beginner clinging to the rails, the rink welcomes all ages and skill levels. Enjoy a magical skating experience with Blackpool’s dazzling Illuminations and famous tower as your unforgettable backdrop.

Please note that skating rink times are subject to change and weather may impact openings. Please check the official Blackpool Council site. You might also want to check the ice skating FAQs.

Free Outdoor Ice Skating FAQs

Please be aware that Blackpool Council states “Christmas By The Sea is an outdoor event and will be subjected to frequent varying weather conditions. Patrons skate at their own risk and skaters under the influence of alcohol will not be permitted on the rink. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult over 16 over on the surface.”

Other Christmas by the Sea Attractions

Find the ice just too slippery? Perhaps a few beers, mulled wine or sweet treats are more your thing. You can find food and drink delights in the Christmas Chalets or enjoy the fairground rides. Maybe save that beer and wine until after the ride! The council won’t allow you to skate if you’ve had a few either (see below) so best to save any alcoholic merriment until after the skating.
